StarkGate: Tracking Cross-Chain Bridge Volumes for Starknet

2025-12-01

StarkGate is the official canonical bridge for Starknet, the ZK-rollup L2 developed by StarkWare. It allows users to move ETH and ERC-20 tokens between Ethereum mainnet and Starknet. As the canonical bridge, StarkGate is the primary entry point for assets into the Starknet ecosystem: the bridge volume it processes directly reflects how much capital is flowing in and out of the Starknet DeFi ecosystem at any given time.

Volume is tracked as two directional flows: deposits (assets moved from Ethereum to Starknet) and withdrawals (assets returned from Starknet to Ethereum). Each direction is reported separately on DefiLlama's bridges page, allowing users to see whether capital is flowing into or out of Starknet on any given day. StarkGate supports multiple tokens: ETH, USDC, USDT, WBTC, and others: with each token having its own sub-bridge contract deployed on Ethereum rather than a single unified contract handling all assets.

The adapter reads Deposit and Withdrawal events from the StarkGate bridge contracts on Ethereum. New token bridges are added by StarkWare governance over time, so the adapter queries the StarkGate registry rather than hard-coding contract addresses: this ensures that newly added tokens are automatically tracked without requiring adapter updates. Each event's amount is decoded and converted to USD using the token's price at event time, then summed per day to produce daily inflow and outflow figures. The adapter is merged as bridges-server #436.
