AUDM (Macropod) - On-Chain Australian Dollar Stablecoin
2026-07-11
Macropod issues AUDM, an AUD-pegged stablecoin that brings the Australian dollar on-chain. It is part of a growing category of non-USD fiat stablecoins targeting users who want to hold and transact in their local currency without converting to USD. AUDM targets Australian DeFi users, businesses doing AUD-denominated transactions, and anyone holding AUD exposure on-chain.
AUDM is fiat-backed: each token is backed 1:1 by Australian dollars held in a reserve. The reserve is audited periodically, and AUDM can be minted or redeemed directly with Macropod at the current AUD value. The peg mechanism relies entirely on the issuer maintaining the reserve and honouring redemptions: there is no on-chain stability mechanism.
The adapter reads AUDM's ERC-20 totalSupply() and applies the AUD/USD exchange rate at each data point to normalise circulating supply into USD for DefiLlama's standardised tracking. The peg type is set to peggedAUD in the adapter configuration so the platform correctly categorises it as an AUD stablecoin rather than a USD one. This fiat exchange rate conversion step is the key difference between this adapter and a USD stablecoin tracker. Non-USD stablecoins are an important part of global stablecoin diversity, and adding AUDM extended coverage to the Australian market segment.
