USDSC (Startale) - Stablecoin for the Soneium Ecosystem
2026-07-08
USDSC is the USD-pegged stablecoin issued by Startale, the team behind Soneium: Sony's Layer 2 blockchain built on Ethereum. USDSC is designed as the native stablecoin for the Soneium ecosystem, enabling USD-denominated transactions, DeFi, and payments within Sony's blockchain infrastructure. It is one of the first pieces of financial infrastructure to launch on Soneium alongside the chain itself.
USDSC is backed by USDC or equivalent collateral locked in a reserve contract, minted 1:1 against that reserve. Redemptions are available at $1 USD at any time, and the reserve is managed by the Startale team. This is a straightforward collateral-backed model: the peg is maintained by the issuer's credibility and the redemption guarantee rather than an algorithmic mechanism.
Soneium is a relatively new L2, so the adapter needed to configure a Soneium-compatible RPC endpoint and handle the chain's block time and confirmation model for reliable supply reads. Adding USDSC provided early data visibility into Sony's blockchain ecosystem: it was one of the first DefiLlama integrations for the Soneium chain, contributing to completeness at the chain's launch rather than retroactively months later.
