Volo: Native Liquid Staking on Sui
2026-07-28
Volo is the leading native liquid staking protocol on the Sui blockchain. Users deposit SUI and receive vSUI, a liquid staking token that appreciates in value as staking rewards accumulate each epoch. The protocol delegates SUI to a curated set of validators and passes through staking rewards to vSUI holders after deducting a performance fee. The vSUI exchange rate increases each epoch, meaning holders earn yield passively without any claim action.
Revenue is a performance fee on epoch staking rewards: a percentage of gross validator rewards deducted before the remainder is credited to vSUI holders through exchange-rate appreciation. The split keeps most of the reward with users while the protocol retains a small cut for operations and development.
Sui uses a Move-based object model that is fundamentally different from EVM or Solana. Data lives in typed objects rather than accounts or contracts, and events are emitted by Move modules rather than Solidity emit statements. The adapter reads Sui Move events from the Volo staking pool objects using the sui_getEvents RPC endpoint. At each epoch boundary, gross rewards are computed from the change in the pool's staking_pool_sui_balance, and the protocol fee percentage is applied to derive daily revenue. Building this adapter required learning Sui's RPC layer and understanding how to track pool state changes across epoch boundaries in the Move object graph: a genuinely different mental model from EVM development.
